Tips for the Test!!!

This week we begin taking the CRCT! It officially begins on Wednesday, April 23rd and finishes up next Tuesday, April 29th. In order to make your child successful during the testing week, here are a few tips make their testing experience less stressful and more productive.

1. Encourage your child! Let your child know that you expect only the best they are capable of doing and not to worry about other students.

2. Have your child in bed early. Even if they can't fall asleep right away...establish some quiet time to get settled and unwind.

3. Get up on time....be sure to set an alarm clock.

4. Eat a healthy breakfast and send them to school with a snack.

5. Dress in layers. The temperature in our room fluctuates often. Bring a sweatshirt to put on or take off depending on the comfort level of the room.

6. Be on time to school!!!!! It is important to start the day off right. If you are all rushing and are late your child will not be allowed to take the test with the class. They must make it up at another time. Students who are late will sit in the Media Center until the testing session is over.

Avoid the traffic, put your child on the bus! If the bus is late, the school will wait. If a car is late, it is an awful fate! :)

One of my students, Sophia Smith, created a great way to get ready for the test.

Concentration, Relaxation, ...it isn't a Crime, To take your time!!

I hope these tips will help your family as we work our way through the CRCT. I am very proud of all the students in my class. They have all worked very hard this year. Thanks for helping to make testing a good experience for all students and thanks for sending in supplies and snacks!  Mrs. Wright

The End Is In Sight!

The end of the school year is now in sight! Once again, it is hard to believe we are headed toward the end. Spring break is here and so is spring fever. It is important that we all continue to work as partners to keep the kids on track until the end of May. The CRCT is also right around the corner. I have sent home a CRCT practice packet for the kids to do over the next two weeks. When it is complete the kids can turn it in for some extra credit in an area of their choice. We also have an in school field trip on April 21st. Please sign the permission slip and send it back to school with the amount due. The program is about light and color and is presented by the High Touch High Tech science company. The kids will do hands on activities and will be able to take home a project. Finally, this week each student has a registration card in their Thursday folder. Please look over this card and make any changes that may be necessary in red ink (if possible) and send it back to school ASAP. This will register your child for school for fifth grade.

Other reminders: The spring carnival is April 18th. We could still use a few more donations for our theme basket. The theme is "Kids Movie Night". Thanks to all the parents who have sent in items.

I hope that each of you has a restful  and relaxing spring break. I know that Jake and I will enjoy it! Happy spring! Mrs. Wright

The Beginning of the End!

Spring is in the air and the last nine weeks of school will quickly be upon us. As the warm weather approaches, so does the CRCT. I believe our students are very well prepared, but we will continue to complete practice tests and learn new test taking skills over the next month. Other events that will soon be upon us are: spring break, Spring Carnival, Field Day, and  International Day. Please watch your child's Thursday folder for more information. As the last months of school come to a close, please emphasize to your child the importance of staying on track at school. It is easy to get spring fever and forget homework or the rules. Let's work together to keep all the kids on track for the remainder of the school year. That's all for now! Enjoy the beautiful spring weather! Mrs. Wright

Returning to Duty!

It is hard to believe that my 8 weeks of maternity leave is over! Jake has grown so much, but the time has gone by much too quickly. All the moms out there know what I mean! Although it will be terribly hard to leave Jake, I am anxious to get back to work and see the kids. Mrs. Oakley has done a wonderful job with the children in my absence. She has completed everything I've asked of her and I even had other teachers saying that our kids knew more about the revolution than their own students! That's Amazing! I hope you will join me in thanking her this week during Teacher Appreciation Week, February 25-29.

I will be returning to work on Friday the 29th. We will be wrapping up many subjects and beginning several new units such as:drugs and alcohol, government, and ecology. We will also begin a poetry project that will become a published class book that you can purchase. I will send more information home soon!

Once again, I would like to thank all of you for your kindness and patience while I have been gone. I have a wonderful class and amazing parents who care deeply about their children. You have made this transition much smoother than I ever could have hoped. I look forward to seeing you all soon as we enter our final 9 weeks of the school year.

Big smiles from Mrs. Wright and Jake

A New Year!

Hello to my fourth grade family!

It seems like such a long time since I have been at school and seen all your smiling faces! Jake and I are doing great! He took his sweet time getting here and then was not without complications. He spent 5 days in ICU for breathing problems, but has fully recovered and is thriving. Thank you all for your thought, prayers, and the many wonderful holiday gifts.

The new year is going well at school. I have been in contact with Mrs. Oakley and she has had nothing but great things to say about the kids. They are studying the American Revolution and will be attending a field trip to the Cobb County Youth Museum on Feb. 8th. This is one of my favorite trips...I'm sorry to miss it! The kids are also taking a fire safety course this month. This is part of the health curriculum and has a lot of valuable information for your child and your family. In math they are learning about fractions/decimals and measurement. I know the kids won't miss a beat while I'm gone. I'll be back before you know it.

Once again, Thank you for all the well-wishes! We appreciate everything you do! Mrs. Wright and Jake

New Beginnings!

As 2007 comes to a close, it is a time to reflect on the old and look forward to the new. It is hard to believe that we are entering the second half of the school year. Your children have grown in so many ways and are quickly becoming independent learners. We are studying many new subjects right now, including: Tall Tales, the 13 colonies, and geometry. Your children did an amazing job on their space projects for Miss Morris in their science class. I am so proud of how far they have come.

Once 2008 begins, there will be a few changes in our classroom. I will be on maternity leave and will likely return the first week of February. Until that time, Kim Oakley will be taking over my position. She is wonderful and a very good teacher. She is organized, structured, and firm. My hope is that the kids won't miss a beat when it comes to the curriculum. If you have any questions or concerns while she is here, please do not hesitate to contact her.

As for me, Baby Jake is on his way. We are hoping to make it to the 21st of December, so I can be here for the holiday party. I have worked with several moms to make sure the party goes off without a hitch even if I am not here. The party is scheduled for December 20th from 10-11:00 am. I hope to see you there. Thank you all of your kindness, support, and well-wishes. I think the kids are as excited as I am about Jake's arrival. I hope you and your family have a wonderful and safe holiday season. I look forward to seeing you at the party and again when I return later in the year.

Happy Holidays, Mrs. Wright and Jake

Keep Smiling!!!

The months are rolling by so quickly that it is hard to believe it is almost the middle of November! I want to thank each and everyone of the parents who came in for an early conference last month. Whether it was a phone conference or in person, your dedication to your child's education was truly evident! I appreciate your support with academic areas, as well as keeping kids focused on good, positive behavior! The education of our children is a team effort and my kids and parents are ranked number one! (Go Dawgs!)

As the holidays draw near, so does the arrival of Baby Jake. As I mentioned to all of you at our conferences, our supply teacher will take over as soon as Jake decides introduce himself to the world. He is due on December 22nd, but you never know. I am hoping to have our holiday party early, so I can be here with the kids. Watch your child's Thursday folder for more information.

A few reminders: December 4th is the Fourth grade musical performance in the cafeteria. Our holiday party will be held the last week of school...more information to follow. We are running low on pencils, eraser toppers, and dry erase markers. Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Keep practicing those multiplication facts daily!!! Mrs. Wright's kids are the best!

Thank you again for all you do for our class and your child! It is very much appreciated! Mrs. Wright

Moving Right Along!

Can you believe it? We are already into the 2nd 9 weeks of school! Hard to believe, but it's true! Over the next couple of weeks, the kids will be working on an exciting explorer project. Each student has been assigned an explorer from either France, England, Spain, or Portugal. The students will research information to write a report, read about his travels, create a map of his voyage, and much, much more. This unit will wrap up with each child presenting their information to the class.

Starting next week, our class will begin learning about space in Mrs. Morris's science class. This is a very interesting unit. The students will be given a project relating to the planets that should be completed at home. Mrs. Morris will send home all of the details once her class is underway.

I hope you have been enjoying our semi-fall weather. As we move toward colder days, please remember to dress your child appropriately for cooler weather. Also, we have been discussing ways to keep ourselves healthy and clean through personal hygiene. This is a great time to reinforce ways to keep your child from getting a cold or the flu by washing their hands often and not sharing food at lunch or snack time.

Thanks to all the parents who have so graciously decided to meet with me for an early conference over the next two weeks. I appreciate your time and dedication to your child and our class. Happy Fall!

The Learning Continues.....

As we begin to wrap up this nine weeks, it is amazing to watch as the children grow and learn. We had a wonderful trip to the Cherokee County YMCA. The children were given an introduction to colonial history where they heard stories about colonial children, made a toy from colonial times and took a tractor ride through the woods to pick out their own pumpkin. Despite a little rain, a great time was had by all.

We have been working on many new concepts in our subject areas. Some of those concepts include: 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication in math, recall and locate and connections in reading, light and color in science, and the functions of the digestive system in health. We have wrapped up our unit on Indians and will begin studying explorers over the next few weeks.

A few things to remember! PTA is having a costume party and dance at the school on October 26th in the cafeteria. This should be great fun! Report cards  will be going home the week of the 22nd, so be sure to watch for it in the Thursday folder. I will be sending confirmation letters home soon to let you know of a time for our early conference or phone call. A big thank you to all parents for your support with homework and conduct at school. Our learning environment is thriving and we are soaring to success. Enjoy the fall leaves this month! Mrs. Wright
