Welcome to the Big Shanty Music Room Blog. 

I am Mrs. Erika Brown.

New Instruments

The music room has received the first 7 drums needed for the new World Drumming program. This new curriculum will supplement the Orff and Kodaly that is already taught. World Drumming teaches students Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science concepts though music. At the beginning of the school year we are going to kick off a fundraiser to purchase the rest of the world drumming set. I can't wait to start using the drums in the music room this year!

SUMMER!

Summer is quickly approaching! 

5th graders- I will miss you guys!  Come visit when you can.

4th graders get ready to set the musical example at school next year.

3rd graders- Get ready to play more recorder than ever!

New 3rd graders- I can not wait to meet you!

2008-2009 Big Shanty Eagle Chorus info will be availble the first day of school.

Chorus and Recorder Black Belt Party

End of the year Chorus party and the Recorder Black Belt party will be Friday, May 9 at 1:30 on the covered play area.  See you then!

Final Chorus Concert Info

Concert- Tuesday, May 6:30 in the Big Shanty Cafeteria

Please be in my room at 6:15

Students will be finished by 6:40.

Please make every effort to attend, Hannah will be playing the piano for us and she has been working very hard for a very long time.  I know this is a bad day for many students and parents, but no day is good this time of the year.

Final Chorus Concert

Our end of the year Chorus Concert will be May 6 at Big Shanty. We will be singing at the beginning of the Incoming 3rd grade Parent Meeting to showcase one of the things Big Shanty has to offer.

Chorus Update

Chorus will start again next week. 

Blue and Yellow will meet Tuesday, April 29 and Thursday, May 1 for the final 2 days of rehearsal for the year.

Muiscal Theatre

We have just started our last unit in Music for the year.  As always I like to do a unit on the 3 major types of musical theatrel; ballet, musicals and opera.  Over the next rotation I will be introducing the 3 and we will be comparing and contrasting them.

As always, 3rd grade will be focusing on Oliver, 4th grade will be looking at the Sound of Music and 5th grade will be learning about My Fair Lady.

Due to Spring Break and CRCT testing we will not have chorus practice until May.

HAWKS GAME

Due to circumstances beyond my control, Big Shanty will not be performing at the Hawks game this year.  Students will receive a notice today that will inform parents how they will be reimbursed.
